Why do we get white skin spots during summer?

August 28, 2019

White spots (sun spots)are a condition known as idiopathic guttate hypomelanosis or IGH. Flat, usually smooth and 2 to 5 mm in diameter. They are harmless and they do not cause any symptoms such as pain or itchiness.

This condition is mostly found on sun-exposed parts of the body including face, neck, shoulders, shins, and forearms.

IGH is more common in people with light-colored skin and can affect men and women. However, women over the age of 40 are the group most commonly affected. Even though there are no definitive answers as to what causes IGH, it is thought to be down to a combination of aging and sun damage.

Dermatologist suggests wearing the right SPF for your skin type to limit the effects of sun exposure.  Also, topical vitamin A can help improve the appearance of white spots.

At Skin Geeks, we can help you find the best Dermalogica SPF for your skin type. We have 7 different types of SPF for you to try, and make sure you find your perfect match.
