Our bodies are our temple. With the New Year comes new goals and objectives to continue to improve upon said Temples, whether it be mentally, spiritually or physically and the approach to Skincare is no different. It is always important to maintain, nourish and protect inside as well as out. However, there are times that were doing everything we possibly can, but somehow feel that certain areas may be overlooked. Well, don’t fret here are some great new forecasts on what to look out for and consider treating in 2018. Whether it’s re-introducing oldie but goodie (Hello Masques!) or simply considering other treatments and protocols in other places on the body where we never thought to treat. Happy 2018!
1. Treating The Y Zone
Perhaps for some this may be a new concept or saying, however it’s not. Many magazines and online sites such as Reddit, Irish Tatler, Dermatologists and others have been talking about this as far back as 5 years or more. According to clinical studies 50% of identifiable aging happens in the lowest part of the face and neck. Which bears to ask? Are we all doing our due diligence in caring of our skin below the jawline or do we just stop right at the jawline? It is thinner skin with less fat and less support and with exposures to environment, hereditary and lifestyle (Smart phones, anyone?) all these things can lead to sogginess and loss of elasticity. What to do? Bring your products DOWN, all the we down to neck and decollate areas. This includes cleanser, exfoliating enzymes and acids, moisturizer & serums targeted specifically for this area and especially SPF. Another great thing to do is to treat it professionally, incorporating a treatment like our NECK & DECOLLETTE Peel is a great way to boost a youthful, firm & glowing complexion to this area.
2. Beyond the Facial
Skin Is ONE large organ, body counts too!
Weather, exposure to the elements, stress, medication, shaving, etc… can all lead to dryness and irritation as well as discoloration. Treat your body right by giving it the appropriate ingredients. Expect to see products and services geared towards this scubas as: cleansers, serums and acid based exfoliators to aid in this. We also recommend coming in for a Glowing Body Polish Treatment. This helps to jump start that overall body care by stimulating lymphatic drainage to detoxify and exfoliants to help generate cellular turnover.
3. Masques Galore!
Thanks to self posts and insta-media, we can now see what everyone is doing! Getting their masque on! It has become a trend not only to post them (Koala bear faced masques) but to also write about the benefits of their usage. They help to address underlying issues, but their also chock full of active ingredients that can help boost your regular daily regimen. Charcoal and clay are great for oil & acne, while vitamin based masques help with anti-aging & fines, hyaluronic acid helps to hydrate and nourish skin. Using them a few times per week are a great way to: hydrate, reduce oil & congestion, calm, diminish fines, firm skin and overall give you some time to destress, what’s not to love?
4. Skin Boosting Gadgets
Inspector Gadget would have loved to have been an actual person living in the 21st Century because of it’s technological advances. We now have our very own G0-Go gadgets for almost everything under sun and skin care in the forefront. Microneedling (or Collagen Induction Therapy) is the the Top word this year. It helps to create micro punctures into the skin to promote collagen production and skin texture (great for Acne scars and anti-aging).
Also look for LED (or Light Emitting Diodes) in your treatments as well. LED light therapy delivers light energy in a similar way plants absorb light energy from the sun. LED emits UV-free, beneficial light rays that energize cells and stimulate the body's natural process to build new proteins and regenerate cells great for all skin types.
Ultra Sonic therapy are high level sound wave technology used to penetrate deep below the surface of the skin promoting cellular renewal and repair, toning muscles, increasing blood circulation, encouraging lymphatic drainage, combating puffiness and swelling and improving skin care product penetration.
Radio Frequency method utilizes radio frequency waves which is basically heat energy meant for tissue remodeling and production of elastin and new collagen.
As heat is a stimulation that promotes contraction of the underlying tissues, especially at the dermis level, soft tissues found within that area of the body compress, realign, and even produce new collagen, a process that normally takes many months to complete.
5. Beauty oils
The days of oil-phobia are long gone. Face, hair and body are loving this great comeback. The body can benefit from using natural essential oils to calm, soothe and hydrate skin. While oils such as kukui nut oil, borage seed, argan, evening primrose oil to name a few help to keep the face clean, dewy and flawless. There are even facial oils with multiple purpose usage that help to remove dirt, excess oil and heavy make-up. Try Dermalogica’s Pre-Cleanse oil.
